The Penn Quakers have bolstered their 2017 recruiting class with the commitment of Jelani Williams. Williams is the fourth player to commit to Penn for the class of 2017, following guard Jordan Salzman, big man Mark Jackson, and wing Eddie Scott. Williams is AAU teammates with Eddie Scott on Team Takeover out of Washington D.C.
The 6-5 combo-guard had a breakout junior season at the Sidwell Friends School in D.C. According to the Washington Post, Williams averaged 16.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. He led Sidwell Friends to the Mid-Atlantic Conference title game. If there is one aspect of Williams’ game that he will want to show improvement in, it is his free throw shooting, as he shot just 60% from the charity stripe last season. However, his 139 free throw attempts over the season shows a willingness to be aggressive and draw fouls.
Williams chose to attend the University of Penn over scholarship offers from Boston University, Colgate, Delaware, George Washington, Hofstra, James Madison, Old Dominion, Pepperdine, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Rice, and Temple.
